Beating the Heat

Beating the Heat

Summer is near everyone’s favorite time of the year! From beaches to vacations, BBQ’s to baseball; summer includes some of America’s favorite pastimes. Summer can be amazing to some but to others it can also be deadly. In 2014, 244 people died in America because of heat. It can start out by you being light-headed to escalating quickly to delirium and organ damage, it could then lead to death (Summer Safety Tips.) Everyone needs to take safety precautions to beat the heat this summer.

Tips for Beating the Heat:

·         DRINK LOTS OF WATER: Avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks!

Some Other Thirst Quencher for a Hot Summer Day:
   Lemonade Coconut Water
   Lemon water
   Seltzer
   Homemade Sports Drinks

·         Stay in the A/C at the Heat Peaks of the Day

If you don’t have A/C try these hacks:
Try to make a homemade a/c with ice and a fan
Try wetting down a sheet and putting it over a window to cool the breeze down
Avoid using the oven and dryer
Go to an indoor mall or movie theater and take advantage of the cool air

·         Wear Appropriate Clothing

   Wear light colored clothing
Keep your head covered with a hat
   Keep sunglasses on you
Keep skin cover to avoid direct sun

·         SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN

How to know what is best
   Check the UV Rays
Make sure your sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB rays
   REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY
You are fine with SPF 30… There is only a few percent differences between that and SPF 100
